DSpace as a Service (DSaaS) is a managed, multi-tenant repository hosting model in which an NREN or service provider deploys, maintains, and scales the technical back end of DSpace on behalf of member institutions, so that institutions can establish or upgrade their Open Institutional Repositories without needing dedicated in-house ICT staff for system administration, upgrades, security patching, or infrastructure scaling.

Institutions retain control over their repository's content, metadata curation, and policies, while the provider handles hosting, customisation, integration with standards like OAI-PMH and Shibboleth/eduID, backups, and ongoing technical support, effectively lowering the barrier to entry for sustainable, well-maintained OIRs across institutions of varying technical capacity.

The Forum will introduce KENET’s Dspace as a Service platform.
