DESCRIPTION:Kenya Education Network (KENET) in its role as the National Re
 search and Education Network engages faculty and researchers through Speci
 al Interest Groups. As of March 6\, 2026\, KENET operationalized three SIG
 s in the following academic areas:\n\n\n    1. Computer Science and Info
 rmation Systems – Research associate – Dr. Wanjiku Nganga\, Senior Lec
 turer in Computer Science\, Department of Computer Science\, University of
  Nairobi. Has been a research associate since 2016. \n    2. Computatio
 nal Modelling and Material Science. This umbrella SIG now includes earth o
 bservation\, bioinformatics\, computational biology and chemistry that all
  use computational modelling techniques. Prof George Amolo\, Professor of 
 Physics\, Technical University of Kenya. Has been a research associate sin
 ce 2018.\n    3. Engineering  - Research associate - Prof Ciira Maina\,
  Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering and Director Data Science a
 nd Artificial Intelligence lab\, Dedan Kimathi University of Technology. H
 e has been a research associate since 2018.\n\n\nEach SIG is coordinated b
 y a part-time Research Associate\, a senior faculty member or researcher i
 n the SIG area. The Research Associate helps KENET build a human network o
 f faculty members and researchers in a particular SIG academic area. They 
 also prepare Calls for Proposals used to award up to four research for eac
 h SIG. In addition\, they also develop Calls for Proposals for innovative 
 use of educational technology to teach courses in each of the SIG areas. 
 \n\n\nKENET plans to operationalize a Special Interest Group in Medicine i
 n the FY 2026/2027 that starts on July 1\, 2026. The idea is to advance me
 dical education and research in priority or emerging areas.\n\nKENET invit
 es nominations of a research associate in medicine who will be selected.\n
